Markings and Endorsements

Mailers must mark/endorse their envelopes and wrappers in accordance with the following specifications.

 

Type of Mailpiece

Required Marking/Endorsement

First–Class Mail International items

Place the words “Airmail” and/or its French equivalent “Par Avion” on the front and back of the mailpiece. Alternatively, use PS Label 19–A, Par Avion Airmail, or PS Label 19–B, Par Avion Airmail.

Matter for the blind

Place the words “Free Matter for the Blind” in the upper right-hand corner of the address side of the mailpiece.

M–bags

Place contents in a universal mail bag and attach a completed M–bag tag (i.e., PS Tag 158) to the neck of the sack.

Priority Mail International parcels

Place the words “Airmail” and/or its French equivalent “Par Avion” on the front and back of the mailpiece. Alternatively, use PS Label 19–A, Par Avion Airmail, or PS Label 19–B, Par Avion Airmail.

Note: First–Class Mail International items, which because of their size, shape, or configuration might be mistaken for another class of international mail, should be marked “LETTER-POST” on the address side of the mailpiece.
