New Standards for Intelligent Mail Barcodes

Today the Federal Register published our new standards [HTML] | [PDF] for Intelligent Mail barcodes, which we posted previously on Postal Explorer. The new standards describe a basic option and a full-service option for Intelligent Mail barcode use, with additional benefits for mailers choosing the full-service option.

The new standards are effective May 11, 2009.

Waiver of Signature

Today the Federal Register published our new standards [HTML] | [PDF] for waiver of signature for Express Mail and return receipt for merchandise. The new standards allow delivery without first attempting to obtain a signature from the addressee when the waiver of signature option is selected. The sender agrees to accept a delivery time and date scan as a valid record of delivery.

The new standards are in effect and will be included in the September 11, DMM update.
